Bowden will be connected in every
sense. It will be a walkable and transit-
oriented community taking advantage
of the highly successful tramline, with
the Entertainment Centre stop located
less than 150 metres away. Coast to
Coast Light Rail and Rail network electrification projects, will further
extend this connectivity.
Coast to Coast Light Rail
In the 2008 State Budget the Government of South Australia announced, as part of its $2 billion public transport blueprint, an expansion of the light rail network Coast to Coast from Glenelg to the City and on to West Lakes, Port Adelaide and Semaphore. Following on from the first highly successful tramline extension from Victoria Square to City West, the next stage of the extension has taken the tramline another 2.8 kilometres along North Terrace onto Port Road to the Adelaide Entertainment Centre. The project also includes a Park and Ride facility at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre, providing an attractive alternative to driving and parking in the City. The extended line opened for full scheduled services on 22 March 2010.
Further information is available on Government of South Australia's infrastructure website.
The master planning process will investigate how best to integrate the development with the tram stop at the Entertainment Centre.
Rail network electrification
South Australia's public transport system is receiving a major overhaul, with a $2.6 billion program of works over ten years now underway to transform Adelaide's network into a vibrant, state-of-the-art and sustainable system. Electrification of Adelaide's metropolitan passenger rail network is being rolled out over more than 100 km of track across the metropolitan area from Adelaide to Outer Harbor and Gawler to Seaford with funding exceeding $400 million over five years.
Electrification of the rail network will deliver a more modern and efficient train service for Bowden. Train services will be quieter, faster and more frequent. For further information go to www.infrastructure.sa.gov.au
