green space

green space

The Bowden redevelopment is planned to incorporate many parks and public spaces. Each area will have its own character and facilities, and will provide residents with different places to be active.

Bowden Village Park will be the central public space that connects with the fresh food markets on Third Street. It's a living space with formal grassed areas and avenues of shady trees. There will be places to shop, eat and relax. 'New' Park will be one of the first to be developed and will retain the historic Pepper Trees from the former Clipsal site. Gasworks Park will provide open space amongst historic multi-use buildings. The original chimney stack will be a celebrated majestic centrepiece. Origin Park celebrates the previous use of this area by reflecting the circular geometry of the old Gas Holder. Here residents will find a liveable outdoor space with barbeques, pavilions and public toilets. A network of linear spaces dotted with signage that will tell the area's story, and private green areas, will link these spectacular public spaces.

culture

culture

Bowden and Brompton
have always focused on 'connecting through creativity'.

Collaboration with some of South Australia's artistic directors and local artists has developed the area into a dynamic and vibrant creative hub. The redevelopment will create a number of interesting industrial spaces for artists to use as workshops. The redevelopment itself will become a canvas for installations, artworks and sculpture. The Bowden redevelopment will incorporate a public bike and car scheme and extend the already established community garden scheme.

third place

third place

You First Place is your home. Your Second Place is where you work. Your Third Place is where you'll spend all the time in between.

Gibson Street was once one of the most lively and interesting thoroughfares in Adelaide. The redevelopment will return boutiques, décor shops, supermarkets, retail variety stores, bakeries and eateries to the area. Gibson Street will be the lively 'High Street' of the inner west. Over these shops a mix of apartments and small office businesses can live and add to the ambience. Village Markets are planned to bring new life to restored sawtooth industrial structures. A cooking school perhaps? Definitely cafes, restaurants and galleries will draw people into these high-ceilinged, light-filled structures. The back streets of Bowden will become some of the most interesting places in the redevelopment – vibrant places that will form a matrix and connect residents with community spaces.

connectivity

connectivity

Bowden will be Adelaide's most connected new address, integrating a new generation of transport and pedestrian access.

Adelaide rail line and the integration and extension of the tramline will see Bowden become the hub of the inner west.
A broad plaza will make this interchange a lively place where people can meet, relax and enjoy a coffee and a meal.
A spectacular walking/cycle bridge will join Bowden to an upgraded west parklands and provide new connections to the city. In fact this arch will form the starting point of the last section of a greenway corridor that will begin in Outer Harbour. Our core philosophy guiding the redevelopment has been to allow people to populate the streets and have priority over cars. So here, cars must share the space with pedestrians.
